     The Steubenville Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for the upkeep of all parks, the Belleview Municipal Pool and the MLK Recreation Center. The Department employs 2 full time employees: Director of Parks and Recreation and Recreation Coordinator, 4 part-time permanent Recreation Aides and a total of 38 seasonal employees which includes: Pool, After School and Summer Food Program staff. Dwan Johnson heads the Steubenville Parks and Recreation Department. The Department offers a variety of recreational activities and encourages the citizens of Steubenville and the surrounding areas to take advantage of all the opportunities it provides.
     The mission of the Steubenville Parks and Recreation Department is to maintain the upkeep of all City Parks and Recreation Facilities and to provide safe and positive experiences to all it’s patrons that engage in leisure activities

     Dwan W. Johnson, on March 10, 2006 became the new Director of the City of Steubenville Parks and Recreation Department. Born and raised in Middletown, Ohio and graduated from Middletown Senior High School in 1982. He received the following degrees: Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration from Wittenberg University (Springfield, Ohio) in 1987 and a Master of Science in Sports Administration from Grambling State University (Grambling, Louisiana) in 1988. He has a total of 18 years in municipal government agencies and has held the following positions: Recreation Leader, Facility Coordinator, Senior Olympic Instructor, Adult Athletic Supervisor, Recreation and Parks Specialist, Recreation Supervisor, Parks and Recreation Director, Inseat Supervisor, Community Program Coordinator, High School Football Coach and College Football Coach. He currently is a member of both (OPRA) Ohio Parks and Recreation Association and (NRPA) National Recreation and Parks Association. Also he holds a Commercial Pesticide Applicators License.
